New Phone, Who Dis?

Dropping Phones

I drop my phone all the time. Sometimes, it’s like my phone jumps out of my hands when I’m just holding it like a normal person. Usually, it’s fine and not a big deal.

Well, on Friday, that changed.

Lawn Mowing

It was a cool day outside and the grass was getting a little tall, so I decided to mow the lawn. I always listen to music when I mow the lawn. So, I popped in my Bluetooth earbuds, put my phone in a ZIPPERED pocket of my shorts. I chose the shorts I wore specifically because there was an inner zippered pocket inside the regular pocket and I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about my phone falling out.

I was mowing our small fenced-in area where Charlie goes potty when I took my phone out to adjust the volume. I put the phone back in the zippered pocket and zipped it up as best I could one-handed. I continued my circle around the perimeter of the fence.

As I started a second circle, I noticed something on the ground. It looked kinda shiny, but I didn’t realize it was my phone until it was too late.

I ran over my cell phone with the lawnmower.

“F*CK” I said out loud. I picked it up to see if the screen still worked because if it did, everything would be ok.

Nope.

But, the phone was still playing my music, so it was still operational. I just couldn’t see what I was doing on it. Not even to turn it off.

I went inside and showed my phone to Jeff and said, “We’re getting new phones today”. Luckily, we were already planning on getting new phones, we just hadn’t bit the bullet yet.

I finished mowing since the music was still playing on the earbuds and then we headed out to Verizon to get new phones. We figured we could learn more about the phones from a Verizon employee than we could at Costco where we usually go.

Well, Verizon had a wait for customer service and we overheard that the customer has to put their own screen protector on. We were intimidated by that, so we went to Costco after all.

Red Robin

First, we got lunch at Red Robin and were annoyed by a few little boys that decided to peek into the window next to our booth. They kept waving and making faces while their parents sat on a bench beside them, ignoring them.

Luckily, we were done eating and were able to leave. Unfortunately, they distracted Jeff from remembering to take his card out of the card reader at the table, so we had to go back for it later.

New Phones

At Costco, we ended up getting Samsung S21 Ultras because there was a deal on them and we were able to trade-in Jeff’s phone and our store’s cell phone and get a decent deal along with a better cell phone for the store.

So, it ended up being a pretty good day despite how it started!
