Surprise Party
Surprise
This past weekend, we attended a surprise birthday party for my brother-in-law (sister’s husband). He turned 50 over Memorial Day weekend.
My parents and grandparents attended, as well as my cousin and his girlfriend. My sister’s friend from high school also came with her husband and 2 kids that are around my nephew’s age.
The main surprise for Chris (my bro-in-law) was when some of his friends started showing up. He definitely wasn’t expecting that. I imagine he wasn’t super thrilled at first when it was just my sister’s friends and family showing up.
Awkward
There was a bit of an awkward moment for me when his first friend showed up. I answered the door because I thought my dad was returning with ice that he’d gone to get, but it was a guy that I didn’t recognize.
I opened the door and, said hello and gestured for him to come inside. I was polite, but I didn’t say anything more because I wasn’t familiar with him.
I walked a few steps into the house and then stopped and turned to me and said “good to see you” and went in for a hug. I hugged him back politely, and said “you too, how are ya?”. I felt bad for a second because I thought I was supposed to know him. He walked further into the house and greeted Chris as it dawned on me that he thought I was my sister.
My sister and I have always looked alike, except she is shorter and has red hair. I’m a little taller and have blonde hair. We’ve looked more alike since I got Lasik about five years ago. People mistake us often.
Shortly after this realization, my sister walked into the kitchen and greeted Chris’ friend. I felt awkward because I assume the friend realized he had goofed. I feel uncomfortable when I think other people might be embarrassed.
Tacos
Soon after that interaction, people started eating. My sister had made tacos and nachos. Tacos are always a crowd-pleaser.
Later, we sang Happy Birthday and we all ate cupcakes. I chose the chocolatiest one and Jeff chose cookies and cream.
Despite it raining outside, the kids all went in the pool, along with Erica’s friend. Some of us had margaritas and then we hung out in the large basement. When Stephen was done in the pool, he came in to “help” Jeff relax on the couch.
Jason Derulo
As the party was wrapping up a bit, we decided to head out. Jason Derulo was putting on a free concert that night at Lambeau Field that I wanted to possibly go to. I fell asleep in the car on the way home and ultimately decided against going.
If we hadn’t already seen Jason Derulo at Universal Studios back in March (which is a story in itself that I should post!), I would have cared much more about seeing him. But, I am becoming an old lady and I was too tired for it.
Here is a photo of me with the chocolate cupcake and my new purple skirt to finish off this post!
