They Found a Tumor

The following day (Sept 2), the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center (FVARC) called us and we learned that it was indeed a tumor they had found.

They asked if we wanted to proceed with an exploratory surgery to see what was happening with the tumor/mass.

They told me that they may find that the tumor had spread and he may not have a lot of time.

It could also be benign, and hopefully, something that could be taken out and biopsied.

It is an expensive procedure, and they said choosing to euthanize was an understandable decision.

I cried.

I told the vet that I would talk to my husband and let them know what we decided.

I called Jeff crying. He came home and we discussed our decision.

We concluded that we would proceed with the surgery.

Pet Parents

Our stance as pet parents is that we will do whatever it takes to help our fur children. This means that we will do whatever surgeries or treatments our pets may need, as long as they aren’t suffering.

We called and told FVARC and told them to proceed with the surgery, which would occur Thursday morning. This meant he would need to get a blood transfusion overnight, due to his Anemia, to make sure he was stable enough to handle the surgery.

Positive Energy

I texted the people that I had been telling about Charlie, plus some friends from Zumba. I am not a “thoughts and prayers” person, but I felt that if I got enough people thinking about Charlie and rooting him on, then I was doing my best to help him. Positive energy doesn’t hurt.

Jeff updated his Discord/Twitch group that he had been in contact with about Charlie.

When I had called Jeff the day before to take Charlie to Green Bay Animal Referral Center (GBARC), he had been streaming on his Twitch Channel. He had explained to them all what was going on, so they were all rooting for Charlie as well.

There was even a person in his group that works in an animal ER, so he had been keeping up with our situation.

Visiting Charlie

They allowed us to visit with him outside the FVARC that evening before he got his blood transfusion.

We walked around with him outside and he seemed SO much better! It made me feel better to see him trotting around and enjoying the sun. We got tons of kisses and gave him a lot of hugs. We let him know we love him so much.

After about half an hour of dealing with all of our love and attention, Charlie got sick of us and started trying to get back into the building, which we thought was funny.
There were three separate doors in the front of the building. He went up to all three of them.

When we got home, I felt better. I was still concerned that the surgery may not go well, or that the results would be bad. But, I also felt that we had made a good decision and we were doing what was best.

Charlie was in good hands.
