The Charlie Chronicles (Part 3)
Thursday (Day 3)
We got a call from the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center at around 2 am. Charlie was apparently not as receptive to the blood transfusion as they were hoping, so they were going to try different blood (I think). They needed our permission to proceed.
They got it.
Around 10 am, we got the text that Charlie was headed to surgery. We had been told it would take about hours. So, for the next two hours, we tried to busy ourselves around the house.
I was feeling nervous for my baby being in surgery. However, I was almost a bit relieved. I can’t explain exactly why. Maybe because I knew I had done all I could at this point and Charlie was in better hands.
Surgery Results
At about noon, the call came. His surgery had gone well!
The surgeon said he had removed the tumor, including the small intestine that was around it, along with a nearby lymph node. Based on what he had seen, the surgeon said he didn’t see any spread of the tumor.
Fantastic news!
His tumor and the lymph node were both sent off for biopsy. We are supposed to learn later what kind of tumor it was/is. Hopefully it isn’t something that is just gone for good, or at least something a simple steroid can help him with.
Fingers crossed.
Charlie needed a few days to recuperate, get some food in his system and get his red blood cell count checked again and poop before he could come home. So, now we just had to wait a couple of days (depending on how quickly he bounced back).
Charlie gets to come home soon!
