The Charlie Chronicles (Part 4)

Friday (Day 4)

We got updates from the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center (FVARC) throughout the day letting us know Charlie was doing well, eating a bit, getting love from the staff, and spending time in the sun.

The staff member who seemed to be spending the most time with him told us that he would probably be ready to come home the next day, assuming things kept progressing as they were.

YAY!

Saturday (Day 5)

The next day FVARC called to let us know Charlie’s red blood cell count had risen and he was given the OK to come home!

We got in the car so we could get him right away.

I was so happy to see him when we walked into the FVARC lobby. I had missed my pup!

Jeff took Charlie on his leash while the veterinarian went over instructions on medicines and his limitations for the next couple of weeks while he heals.

It was a long list of medications.

While we spoke with the veterinarian, Charlie went by the lobby door and peed. Classic Charlie.

An issue arose when we tried to pick him up to get him in the car. He yelped and struggled and tried biting at us. We tried to pick him up a few more times from different angles before I sent Jeff inside to ask them what we could do.

A staff member came out and picked him up. She just kept holding on while he struggled and yelped. Once he was set in my lap, he was fine. She said that he was likely just freaking out in anticipation of pain. It probably wasn’t actually hurting him.

We are Those People

We’ve got Charlie home now! We actually brought our guest bed mattress up and have been sleeping on it in the living room. Charlie has to jump to get on our regular bed and hes not supposed to jump.

Charlie’s first night back home. The cats LOVED the bed.

That’s right. We are sleeping on a queen-sized mattress in on the living room floor just so Charlie can sleep between us. We are those people.

Happy to be home!

Each day he seems to get a little bit better. Sometimes that means that he is more of his asshole-y self, but that’s ok because he is OUR asshole.

Vet Follow-Up

On the following Wednesday, we took him to our vet clinic to get him checked out and get an updated red blood cell count. His numbers are up, so he’s doing great in that department!

They examined him and said he is looking good. Our vet also mentioned that small intestinal tumors tend to be the easiest ones, so that was a nice thing to hear.

We still haven’t gotten the biopsy results back, but they should come any day. As I am typing this a week later (almost two weeks since his surgery) we still don’t have any biopsy updates.

Hopefully, when we finally get results, they have good new and we get to love Charlie for years to come!
