How Hard is it to Wear a Mask?
I have had mixed emotions about people during this time of quarantine due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Today is a good example.
The Good
I was doing a round of disinfecting door knobs and light switches before heading out to get some food and I heard a bunch of car horns honking.
I remembered that the teachers from our school district were doing a parade of cars through their students’ neighborhoods this week and today was our neighborhood’s day.
I stood in the driveway and took video of the cars driving by. Some of my neighbors were outsdie with signs and waving to their teachers as they drove by. I overheard the neighbor boy yell “I miss you!” to one of the teachers driving by and the teacher responded “I miss you, too!” with a wave.
That got me. I am personally not a huge fan of kids in general (I don’t know how to relate with them), but I have friends that are teachers and I know they think of their students as their kids. The teachers and students all thought they had more time with each other. Their regular school year came to an abrupt end. What a weird situation to be in for both teachers and students.
The teacher parade gave me hope for humanity. It reminded me that we are all in this together.
The Bad
Then I also see all the terrible things some people are doing. Unmasked people getting in the faces of cops and nurses that are just doing their jobs to protect everyone. A guy bitching outside of Menards about having to wear a mask when he is in the store. He says this infringes on his rights. How f*cking hard is it to wear a mask?
He stated that due to some medical condition, wearing a mask could harm him. Maybe I am just ignorant, but what medical condition would that be? If he has such a medical condition, perhaps he shouldn’t be out and about shopping at Menards anyways.
I see these people that are going out just for the hell of it, not wearing masks and just complaining about everything. I can’t imagine being that selfish. What makes them more important than anyone else in the world?
I understand that people are hurting mentally and financially. I really get it. I have issues with anxiety, My husband and I own a game store with 12 employees (which we had to temporarily lay off) and we are doing our best to keep our business going through e-commerce. We are luckly doing okay so far. I realize not everyone is in the same position.
I just wish people would realize that if they stopped protesting and just hunkered down for awhile, things would get better FASTER. They are slowing down a process that is already going to be slow.
I do hope that as things slowly (very slowly) start getting back to normal that people will calm down.
Okay. I needed to vent. Rant done. For now…
