Murfreesboro
The first leg of our journey to Florida brought us to Murfreesboro, TN. I had booked a VRBO rental that graciously allowed us to bring our cats. It was a cute little studio apartment attached to the hosts’ home.
Surprise Family Reunion
This past weekend, Jeff and I traveled down to my aunt’s house in Janesville to “help” with her and my grandparents’ garage sale. As I have mentioned in past posts, my grandparents are moving out of the house they have lived in for over 50 years. My aunt added a bunch of stuff from their house to a garage sale that included stuff from my uncle’s business that he is moving.
Wedding Time!
Wedding!
The General Manager of our store, The Game Capital, got married this past Saturday. I had been excited for the wedding for awhile, but I was a little nervous as it got closer because of the high rates of Delta COVID cases in our area. In the whole country, really.
UTV & First Restaurant Since COVID
My sister and nephew were at my parents’ house in Iola for a few days, so I took a trip over to visit them and see the new Polaris UTV my parents got for themselves. They ordered it a few weeks ago and weren’t expecting it until June, so that was a pleasant surprise!
Second Dose
Vaccine
I got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday!
It was once again a very quick process. Drove to UWGB, walked into the Kress Center, checked in at the desk, and a matter of minutes later, I was sitting in the waiting room for the precautionary 15 minutes after my shot.
Easter 2021
We celebrated Easter this past Sunday with my family at my parents’ house. We all have at least one vaccination and spent most of our time outside, so we deemed it safe. We don’t always celebrate Easter in our family, since we aren’t religious. We used to do egg hunts and Easter meals as children at my grandparents’ house, but didn’t keep up with that as all of the younger generation grew up.
The Vaccine
I cannot wait to get the vaccine.
I feel like I am going to be the last person that can actually get it. In fairness, there are a ton more people that need it and/or should get it before I do.
After the Fact
Today I learned that one of our staff members had COVID a few months ago. They quarantined and are fine now. It does not seem as though they passed it to anyone else on staff, luckily. So, it’s all fine in that regard.
Christmas 2020
We usually celebrate Christmas Eve at my in-law’s house. Due to Covid, there was no Christmas gathering with his family this year. Jeff and I celebrated on our own with gifts, Christmas movies, and takeout from Chili’s.
What to Do About Christmas
I am having a tough time deciding what Jeff and I should do for Christmas.
We didn’t gather with family for Thanksgiving, even though I visited them the weekend before that. The cases in Wisconsin spiked after my visit and the governor and healthcare workers begged people not to get together for Thanksgiving. So, we decided not to.
Light at the End of the Tunnel
COVID Vaccines
It sounds like there is a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to COVID. There are multiple vaccines that seem promising, which is excellent news!
My brother-in-law, who works in a hospital, will be getting the vaccine next week. People like my husband and I will likely have to wait until spring to get vaccinated. That’s fine, there are obviously people out there that are in more need of it than we are.
Walks
Mental Health
It has been unusually warm (over 70!) for the past week! That is unheard of for November in Wisconsin. I have taken advantage of the gorgeous days by taking walks each day.
The weather has been good for my mental health, especially this past week with all of the Election drama. All of the walks I have taken help me clear my head a bit.
On Wednesday, the day after the election, I took Charlie over to Voyageur Park and we walked around all of the pathways. It was so pretty, despite most of the leaves being gone.
Halloween 2020
Last weekend was Halloween!
This was the first year in some time that I didn’t dress up for Halloween because I didn’t go to Halloween Zumba. I’ve had memories from past Halloween Zumba pop up on my Facebook timeline. They made me kinda sad.
Election Day & COVID Thoughts
I am glad I started virtual therapy a few weeks ago with TalkSpace. I knew my anxiety would be leveling up as Election Day got closer.
I want all of this to be over. The election, COVID-19 (which unfortunately won’t go away after the election), racial inequality. All of it.
Even when the election is over, I expect there will some civil unrest, no matter who wins.
When COVID gets under control, I don’t think anyone’s life will return back to whatever “normal” was for them pre-COVID. I know mine won’t.
Changes at The Game Capital
Changes are happening at The Game Capital and they are happening FAST!
Just a few weeks ago, we had about 6 staff members, not including myself or Jeff.
We now have 21 staff members (including myself and Jeff)!
Wow. That’s crazy.
And we are working on hiring a couple more!
“Pussy Pants”
In February, we had taken a vacation to Cancun with a big group of some friends from Zumba. This gave Jeff a chance to get to know everyone. And, for everyone else to get to know him, since he hadn’t gone to many gatherings with me before this. He’s also a little shy when he first meets people. He gets over it quick, though!
Game On! Diet Competition
I started a new diet on Tuesday. It is based on the book, The Game On! Diet: Kick Your Friend's Butt While Shrinking Your Own.
A friend of mine from Zumba did this diet recently to get rid of the “COVID 17” she put on during the COVID-19 quarantine.
A group of 8 of us split into teams of 4. For the next 4 weeks, we have to abide by the meal plan, water intake, and exercise plan. We also have to get rid of one bad habit and pick up a new good habit.
This is a points-based game. You get points for eating each meal (correctly), drinking 3 liters of water/day, exercising for 20 minutes, and so on.
How Hard is it to Wear a Mask?
I have had mixed emotions about people during this time of quarantine due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Today is a good example.
The Good
I was doing a round of disinfecting door knobs and light switches before heading out to get some food and I heard a bunch of car horns honking.
Self-Distancing
I have been self-distancing for about a month now. Maybe more, maybe less. It’s hard to keep track anymore. I know a lot of people are in the same boat.
The days seem to go by in 5 minutes, yet the weeks go by slowly. It’s weird and confusing.
I am less stressed than I was at the beginning of all of this. We have been able to keep having an income and have been able to continue operating the business. It was just Jeff and I fulfilling online orders for a bit
I plan my life out a day at a time, so my posting schedule can be erratic.
