Game On! Diet Competition

The Game On! Diet Competition

I started a new diet on Tuesday. It is based on the book, The Game On! Diet: Kick Your Friend's Butt While Shrinking Your Own.

A friend of mine from Zumba did this diet recently to get rid of the “COVID 17” she put on during the COVID-19 quarantine.

A group of 8 of us split into teams of 4. For the next 4 weeks, we have to abide by the meal plan, water intake, and exercise plan. We also have to get rid of one bad habit and pick up a new good habit.

This is a points-based game. You get points for eating each meal (correctly), drinking 3 liters of water/day, exercising for 20 minutes, and so on.

Meal Plan:

Eat 5 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should consist of protein (palm-sized portion), carbs/fruits (fist-sized portion), veggies (2 fist sized portions for 2 meals a day/unlimited greens), and good fats (thumb-sized portion). You get 6 points for each meal, or you subtract 6 points for each missed meal.

Water Plan:

Drink 3 liters of water throughout the day for 10 points. Lose 10 points if you don’t reach 3 liters.

Sleep Plan:

Get 7+ hours of sleep each night for 15 points.

Exercise Plan:

Workout however you’d like for 20 minutes a day. This earns 20 points.

New Habit:

Practice your new habit each day for 10 points.

Old Habit:

Ditching the Old Habit each day gets your 10 points. You lose 10 points each time you fall into the habit per day.

Communication:

Communicate with your teammates as well as your competitors each day for 5 points.

Penalties:

There are also penalties for weighing yourself more than once per week, snacking, changing your habit, drinking alcohol, or colllusion.

Day Off:

If this sounds like a lot of stuff to keep track of, I agree with you! Luckily, you can have a day off from all of these things once a week. I will probably use that day to eat a lot of junk food. Partially because I miss it, and also because I need to get it out of the house so I don’t see it in my pantry!

My Bad Habit:

The bad habit I am staying away from is shopping/buying clothes online. I chose this habit because it is something I know I can actually accomplish, plus it will benefit my wallet.

My Good Habit:

The Good Habit I chose to work on each day is to write. I always want to commit more time to writing. Whether it be essays for a book I would like to get written, or just working on a blog post like this one, I need to write every day.

The Meal Plan

This meal plan is a little tricky for me. I had been doing an intermittent fasting diet for a few months, and eating 5 small meals a day is kind of strange for me! I don’t mind it since I get to eat more often now.

Junk Food

I do eat a lot of junk food (chips, chocolate, popcorn), which is hard to stay away from. I had to do some major grocery shopping to get a lot of fresh produce and other ingredients for some of the recipes that are included in the book.

Krista’s Quick and Easy Breakfast

So far my favorite recipe has been Krista’s Quick and Easy Breakfast, which I will make another post for!

At the end of each week, we turn our weekly scores in to the designated scorekeeper. Somehow that ended up being me. Yikes.

Prize

At the end of the 4 weeks, the winning team (hopefully my team) gets treated to a prize, like a dinner or massage or something of that nature. The losing team pays for whatever the prize is. I don’t think our group has decided on a prize yet at this point. It will be a little more difficult due to COVID-19.
