Surprise Family Reunion
Garage Sale
This past weekend, Jeff and I traveled down to my aunt’s house in Janesville to “help” with her and my grandparents’ garage sale. As I have mentioned in past posts, my grandparents are moving out of the house they have lived in for over 50 years. My aunt added a bunch of stuff from their house to a garage sale that included stuff from my uncle’s business that he is moving.
I’m not sure my grandma understands how a garage sale works. She kept walking through all the stuff and picking up her old things. She put a lot of things into boxes and basically filled her car back up with her own stuff to take back home.
Family Reunion
My other aunt, Terri (my mom’s other sister) came up to visit Wisconsin from Arizona, where she currently lives. We hadn’t seen her since COVID. Most of us were also surprised that her daughter came to Janesville from Ohio.
This was apparently the first time all of the cousins on my mom’s side of the family had been together since my wedding. That was 9 years ago. Jeff and I just celebrated our 9 year anniversary on Wednesday the 29th.
So, it was my grandparents, their 3 daughters (my mom and aunts), their 5 grandkids and significant others, and their great-grandson (my nephew). We were just missing my Uncle Tom, Terri’s husband.
We all sat around in my aunt’s yard for the weekend. It was nice to see everyone!
Haunted Doll
The garage sale included a life-size/child-size doll with black eyes and poorly cut hair. She has been around my grandparents’ house for years. I think she was my aunt Terri’s doll. We referred to her as the haunted doll.
One customer asked for the price of the haunted doll. After my uncle yelled across the yard to my aunt and asked “How much for the haunted doll?”, the customer no longer seemed interested. How odd.
Apparently, a different customer that talked with my aunt for a long time, specialized in demon possessions. He told my aunt this after she showed him the haunted doll. He looked at the doll and said that he didn’t sense any demons around her.
So…I guess the doll isn’t actually haunted.
Friends
On Saturday night, Jeff and I took a break from family and met my friend from college for dinner. It was good to see him. But also a little awkward because I’m awkward. We hadn’t seen him for a couple of years, mostly thanks to COVID. It was good to catch up with him a little bit. We didn’t get to see our other friends in the Janesville area because they were unfortunately occupied with family since it was the memorial of her grandfather passing away from COVID last year.
Overall, it was a good weekend. I was very tired yesterday for the drive home. I am still a little tired today. Socializing takes a lot of energy for me and I socialized for 3 days in a row. It’s a lot!
