Grandma’s House
Grandparents
My grandparents are getting older. They have lived in the same house for 50 some years. Its a split level home with a huge yard and laundry in the basement. It is far too much for them to take care of anymore.
They snowbird in Arizona from around October to April and have done that for over 10 years now. They’ve also talked about selling their house for at least 10 years. It finally happened.
Grandma & Grandpa’s House
They got a buyer and they need to be out of their house by the end of September. They have an apartment in a Senior Living building ready for them to move into.
Though I know they need to leave, it’s a little hard to say goodbye to the house. I spent the majority of my childhood there. Grandma used to babysit my sister and me while my parents were at work. We used to celebrate all of our holidays in that house. My grandpa taught me how to skip in their long driveway.
Memories
We had Easter Egg hunts in their backyard. We played cards hundreds of times at their dining room table. We took golf cart rides on the trails my grandpa made through their 16 acres of wooded land.
This house has been a big part of my life and it will be hard to let it go. It is odd to think that a family with two teenage girls are going to be living in this house that my grandparents built.
Jack & Jill
My grandparents house has the only Jack and Jill bathroom set up that I have ever seen. There is just a sliding door between their toilets. My sister demanded that we take a picture sitting together on the toilets.
Carpet
Did you notice the carpet on the floor in the bathroom? Yeah. Their entire house-minus the laundry room-is carpeted. Apparently this was popular at some point.
Packed Away
As I looked around their house, I took a ton of pictures for memories and I noticed how much of their stuff they have packed up. Most of their knickknacks are packed up or have been given away. I guess my aunt has also taken car loads home with her to sell in a garage sale.
Grandma keeps trying to give us all more stuff. We all had to choose multiple antique clocks to take home with us.
Clocks
Funny story about the clocks is that they wanted me to try and sell them on eBay about a decade ago. I didn’t know how to sell on eBay at the time, but I knew a Facebook friend of mine from college did. I sent him a message, and now he is my husband. I never sold the clocks.
