First Dose

COVID-19

I am very happy to report that I got my first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine today!

Found a good reason for a cold shoulder shirt!

“Overweight”

I did not think I was going to be able to get the vaccine this soon, but I checked my BMI and I fall into the “Overweight” category. I hadn’t even considered that I would fit in the “Overweight” category since I don’t think I am fat by any means.

I may have thought so a few months ago when I weighed over 30 pounds more than I currently do. I have lost weight since I started using the Noom app. I was actually scared that maybe I had lost the weight a bit too soon and wouldn’t be eligible to be “Overweight” anymore. Apparently, I need to lose 15 pounds more to be considered “Normal” weight.

If being “fat" is what gets me the vaccine, so be it.

I was so excited last week when I booked my appointment. I wasn’t expecting it to be that easy once I realized I was qualified.

Today also happens to be my mom's birthday. She said me getting the shot was a pretty good birthday present for her.

Nervous

I was rather nervous going in for my shot. I’m always nervous for doctors appointments and such. I was more nervous about this because I was unfamiliar with the place and I was going on my own.

Once I entered the building, it was fine. I had to wait in a couple of lines, but I got through pretty quickly since I had filled out the paperwork online ahead of time.

Hillary

The lady that checked me in was also a Hillary (but with 2 L's). She said we have good names.

From there, I waited another couple of minutes and then I was went back to a curtained off cubicle for my shot.

Easier Than the Flu Shot

I answered a couple more questions and got my very painless shot! It was easier for me than a Flu Shot! Those are also easy for me, but I think I usually feel Flu injections more than I felt this one.

It’s blurry. Oh well.

It’s blurry. Oh well.

After my shot, I was given my next appointment, a sticker, and I went to a seating area to wait 15 minutes before leaving. This is in case of any side-effects.

Leg

After I was sitting for a few minutes, a man sat in the chair behind me. While he sat, he took off his leg to tie his shoe.

How do I know this?

Because he alerted me that he would be doing so. He also alerted me when he was going to put his leg back on.

I wouldn’t have known he did it if I hadn’t told me.

It was absolutely fine that he told me, I just found it humorous. I actually thought to myself that being able to take your leg off to tie your shoe would be one advantage of not having your leg.

Shortly after I thought this, the man told me the same thing out loud.

Awkward

It was a bit of an awkward conversation, because I couldn't really contribute. It was also a bit weird when he pulled up the leg of his pants to show me his leg sock. Then showed me the thinner sock in his bag.

He said he doesn't like to get down on himself for not having his leg and mentioned the phantom pain. He seemed to be in need of conversation.

It was all fine and good. I’m glad I could provide him a listening ear. I’m just and awkward person.

Side Effects

And now I'm just dealing with a bit of a sore arm. Similar to how a Flu Shot makes my arm ache a bit.

Hopefully the side effects stay minor or non-existent!

Now we just have to work on getting my husband his first shot! The dude is too skinny and healthy to be eligible yet.
