Sledding
I went sledding for the first time, probably since college, on January 2nd. I joined my parents, sister, nephew and brother-in-law. These are pretty much the only people I interact with outside of Jeff. Because Covid.
The Hill
We went to the “Iola Ski Hill” that is located near the Iola-Scandinavia High School and up the hill from the Elementary School.
The Climb
Man, it was hard getting up the hill to begin with. I am out of shape.
Once we got up the hill, we all took a turn sledding down the hill with Stephen, except for Mom. She was afraid she would hurt her tailbone.
The Pole
On my turn with Stephen, we started veering straight into a pole, one of the few obstacles at the bottom of the hill. You can see it in the picture above. It wasn’t even that close. I stopped us before we hit the pole, of course. But, that kind of crap always happens to me.
Walking Back Up
Once I walked back up, my parents asked me if I was going to go down again. I said, “Not if I have to walk back up again”. It was tiring…
Everyone was done pretty quickly. Walking up steep snowy hills in the cold gets old quick, I guess.
Mom pulled Stephen down smaller hills in a sled on our way back to the car, despite him not seeming to enjoy it all that much. He said he was “upside-down” in the first picture.
The Rest of the Day
Once we got back to the house, Mom and Dad made some cod and shrimp scampi. Always nice to have a meal that I don’t have to cook myself!
Then we played a game of Azul, which they had to teach me. I had already played Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra. Azul is the original version (both are available at The Game Capital! Just follow the links!). Not a bad game, even though I lost.
