It is my birthday.
Today is my birthday. I turned 34 years old.
It’s a bit of a weird birthday, due to COVID-19. I can’t really leave the house, unless I want to go work at our store or take our dog, Charlie, on a walk.
I’m an introverted hermit, so it doesn’t bother me too much to stay home. My parents came to visit me last Sunday (today is Tuesday). They set my birthday gift on my porch and then stayed 6 feet away from me to chat while I stood on the porch.
I’m not a big hugger, but it is strange to not be able to hug my own parents.
I also miss being able to go to Zumba. I used to go 2-3 times a week. Thats where I found most of my friends. We just went on a trip to Cancun with a huge group of Zumba people back in February. That feels like a lifetime ago now that we are in quarantine!
One silver-lining of my quarantine birthday is that I didn’t need to worry about planning a big birthday get together for myself. As much as I love to see my friends and family around my birthday, I hate the feeling that I need to make the day special. It stresses me out.
My husband asked me a couple days ago what activities I want to do for my birthday. I told him I would like to work on my puzzle, read a little, maybe do some writing and coloring. He pointed out that all of those are kind of solo activities.
What can I say? I like my me time.
I also requested 3 other things.
A cake from Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe. My favorite bakery.
A chocolate long-john for breakfast
Take out from my favorite “special” restaurant, Plae Bistro.
He was able to deliver on 2 of the Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe covered the first 2. Plae Bistro doesn’t have their lunch menu available during this COVID-19 shut-down. Lunch is what we usually get there, so my usual order wasn’t available. He was able to get takeout from Plank Road Pub, a bar not far from us, so it was all good.
Jeff took a video of me opening my cake last night. It’s Friends themed! It’s a damn good thing he took video of it, because we left it (in the box) on our counter overnight. Our cat Murray apparently stepped on it early this morning, so he smushed half of it.
That was a bummer, but its all still edible at least!
I am going to do a Zoom birthday party with friends this evening, so I think I will be able to call this an overall successful birthday!
