Mother’s Day
Family
I got to see a lot of family that I haven’t seen since September this weekend. Most of my mom’s side of the family gathered at my mom’s house for Mother’s Day yesterday. My grandparents are home from Arizona for the summer, so I got to see them. My sister, brother-in-law, nephew, aunt, uncle and 2 cousins all came up for the weekend. They did some yardwork at my grandparents’ house on Saturday. I joined on Sunday for UTV rides and a Mother’s Day lunch.
It was really good to see more family and visit with them without masks (we are all vaccinated). The last time we had all gotten together was in September for Stephen’s (my nephew) birthday. Which we had outside and wore masks for.
Frozen Ice Cream
We had brats and hot dogs for Mother’s Day lunch, as well as a very frozen ice cream cake from DQ. They had eaten some of it the night before and put it in the freezer overnight. They actually got out a big steak knife to cut pieces and that was even a struggle.
UTV
We spent a lot of time visiting and then some of us went on a ride around the backroads of our neighborhood in my parents’ UTV. The UTV will be more fun on trails than it is on regular roads. On the roads, it’s basically just a small vehicle that can’t go the speed limit.
Birds
When we (my sister and I) returned from our UTV ride with the cousins, two birds slammed into a second floor window on my parents’ house. One bird flew away. My uncle picked up the other one and we tried to help it out. The bird did move a little and turned over in my uncle’s hands, but he ultimately didn’t make it, which is sad. At least he was shown some love and care before he passed.
Ring Around the Rosie
Later on, we all played Ring around the Rosie with Stephen in the yard. What an odd choice of children’s games to play our first time coming together during a pandemic since Ring Around the Rosie is thought to be based on the Black Plague.
