Wedding Time!
Wedding!
The General Manager of our store, The Game Capital, got married this past Saturday. I had been excited for the wedding for awhile, but I was a little nervous as it got closer because of the high rates of Delta COVID cases in our area. In the whole country, really.
Most of July
I’ve been meaning to write a new blog post for awhile, but I’ve been spending all of my writing time working on the book I am writing. I don’t think I have mentioned the book I am currently working on yet, but it is a personal story for me that I am fictionalizing to make it easier for me to write.
Date Day!
Jeff is officially 2 weeks past his last vaccination! We celebrated by having our first “Date Day” outing in over a year.
The Space is Ours!
In late September of 2019, Jeff and I signed the lease for the Dollar General space and it was now ours! The Dollar General would now be turning into The Game Capital!
Dollar General Location
The Dollar General down the road from us announced it was closing. All of its shelving and racks were being sold. Jeff decided to wander through and see if there was anything we might want for our store. He sent some pictures from Dollar General to some of the staff and jokingly (I believe) suggested we look into getting the place once Dollar General vacated.
New Location?
It was becoming increasingly clear to us that we needed more space for our store. We had issues fitting customers in the store for events. We weren’t able to bring in more products like miniatures and paints for those miniatures. We knew that these would be popular products to carry, so it was frustrating.
$5 in to $50
There are always customers that will try to do shady things to small businesses.
This past August, when we were open to customers, a customer came into The Game Capital with his kids and said he had a gift card that he had won at a video game tournament in the area, called the Tundra Bowl.
Family Visit
My sister and my nephew, Stephen, were at my parents’ house in Iola, my hometown this past weekend, so I decided to go and visit on Friday. I hadn’t seen my favorite little ginger (Stephen) for awhile.
It was a good visit. It was just the original four of us, plus Stephen. Just missing the husbands. At times it almost felt like back in the day before Erica (sister) or I went off to college and eventually moved out permanently.
Changes at The Game Capital
Changes are happening at The Game Capital and they are happening FAST!
Just a few weeks ago, we had about 6 staff members, not including myself or Jeff.
We now have 21 staff members (including myself and Jeff)!
Wow. That’s crazy.
And we are working on hiring a couple more!
The Charlie Chronicles (Part 5)
I was on my exercise bike this morning when the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center finally called with Charlie’s biopsy results.
I ran upstairs to get better reception.
Dr. Leonard, the vet, let me know that the tumor was unfortunately malignant.
Not the news we wanted.
Being a Store-Owner During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Being a Store-Owner
It is a crazy time right now for everyone.
It’s been a really weird time to be a store-owner.
I’ve rarely been to our store, The Game Capital, since we let some of the staff return to work (when it was deemed safe). There is no real reason that I need to be at the store physically in order to do my computer work. So, I stay home.
Whoops!
I did a whoops.
I originally had this website hosted under Wordpress. I had maybe a dozen posts. Not a ton of great material on there, but some.
I was having a rough time trying to figure out how to get ads on the page so that I MIGHT make a little bit of money off of this blogging hobby. I only had maybe 1 reader, so I didn’t have high hopes.
I plan my life out a day at a time, so my posting schedule can be erratic.
